Three Ukrainian servicemen involved in crimes against civilians have been sentenced in the DPR and LPR.
Sentences have been passed against citizens of Ukraine Viktor Pokhozey, Maxim Butkevich and Vladislav Shel. They were found guilty of ill-treatment of civilians and the use of prohibited methods in armed conflict (Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In addition, Butkevich was convicted of attempted murder of two persons in a generally dangerous way and intentional damage to someone else's property in a generally dangerous way (Part 3 of Article 30 of the a, e, part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and Shel - for attempted murder motivated by ideological and national hatred (Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "l" part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Pokhozey, Butkevich and Shel used methods prohibited by the Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilians in Time of War and Additional Protocol I to it, related to encroachment on the life and physical integrity of persons not taking part in hostilities, during the hostilities in Donbas.
The court sentenced Pokhozey to 8.5 years in prison, Butkevich to 13 years in prison, and Shel to 18.5 years in prison. They will serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony.
